In a studio unit, every piece of furniture has to earn its place. Start with the bed, not the sofa. It is the largest piece you cannot fold away, so everything else is planned around it.
Give the bed a home
A bed along the longest wall leaves a clear walking line. If the unit has a window bay, a raised platform with drawers underneath turns the dead space below into storage.
One wall for storage
Choose a single wall and make it storage from floor to ceiling, in one finish. A continuous surface reads as architecture, not as furniture, and the room feels larger.
Keep materials few
- Two or three materials across the whole room, such as limewash, linen and one wood.
- Mixed small items create visual noise; fewer, larger pieces look calmer.
- Leave a clear floor strip to the window.
Light does the rest
Keep curtains light and hung high. Warm lamps at different heights make the room feel like a place to stay, not a place to store things.
